Vivo S1 Summary
The S1 is the first Vivo S series smartphone to launch in India. The S series focuses on style and it cannot be denied that the S1 looks elegant. It comes in two colour variants called Diamond Black and Skyline Blue. We had the Diamond Black variant that had a catchy diamond pattern on the back. Vivo has put an AMOLED screen of 6.38 inches on the S1. It has good viewing angles and adequate brightness when outdoors. It also houses an on-screen fingerprint scanner. The Vivo S1 has a waterdrop notch that houses the selfie camera.
On the back, the S1 has a triple camera configuration consisting of a 16-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. We were not impressed by the fact that the S1 has a Micro-USB port, while most other smartphones in this price range have a Type-C port.
Vivo includes the S1 with FunTouch OS that runs on Android 9 Pie. It has customizations and comes with some preinstalled applications. The Vivo S1 works with a MediaTek Helio P65 SoC and is the first smartphone in India to do so. There are three variants of the Vivo S1: 4 GB of RAM with 128 GB of internal storage, 6 GB of RAM with 64 GB of internal storage and 6 GB of RAM with 128 GB of internal storage. We had the high-end variant for review and did not face any problems in daily use.
We play games like PUBG Mobile that the S1 ran on medium configurations. The phone warmed to the touch after playing for 20 minutes. The camera is where the S1 still needs some work since we were not happy with its performance. It does a decent daylight job but offers less than average performance in low light. The 4,500 mAh battery offers good battery life and Vivo includes a fast 18W charger in the box.
The Vivo S1 feels expensive compared to some of its competitors such as Realme X and Oppo K3.
Display and Battery
The Vivo S1 boasts a 6.38″ Super AMOLED screen, which has a pixel density of 404 PPI. It results in a screen resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels.
Acting as the resistance provider, there is a 4,500 mAh lithium-ion battery, which provides long hours of backup. It also comes with a fast charging technology, which recharges the battery in a short time.
Camera and Connectivity
The Vivo S1 is armed with a triple camera setup consisting of 16MP, 8MP, and 2MP lenses. The cameras can click awesome images and also can record HD or HQ videos. At the front, there is a 32MP selfie shooter that also helps while facilitating video calls.
The device has a wide range of connectivity options such as 4G network work on VoLTE, mobile hotspot, Bluetooth, GPS, MicroUSB and Wi-Fi.
Storage and Configuration
The Vivo S1 comes with built-in storage of 128 GB, which helps to store a large number of files and documents. The storage can be expanded further up to 256 GB by using a memory card.
The smartphone has two quad-core processors under the hood such as Cortex A75 2GHz and Cortex A55 2GHz. The processors manage the overall system performance and are installed on a MediaTek Helio P65 chipset. These are accompanied by a 4GB RAM that facilitates the handling of multiple tasks. In addition, there is a Mali-G52 GPU that deals with graphic needs.
The price of Vivo S1 in India starts from Rs. 17,820. The lowest price of Vivo S1 is Rs. 17,820 on flipkart.com. This is a 4 GB RAM / 128 GB internal storage base variant of Vivo S1 that is available in Diamond Black Skyline Blue colour.
